Yes! We tested HBO GO out for a couple of months through Telenor’s MyTV service.
Telenor’s online TV starter package gives you 11 TV channels plus HBG GO for 2490 HUF (roughly $9 per month) without having to sign a contract. If you do sign a two-year contract, the price is 1990 HUF per month. There’s also a family package that offers 52 channels plus HBO GO, but since HBO was all we were after, we didn’t care about the extra channels. (We didn’t even watch the 11 we had with the starter plan).
As with Netflix, though, it’s not a great solution if you want to watch TV as a way of learning the Hungarian language. Since Hungary is so great at dubbing, it’s rare to find a show in English with Hungarian subtitles. In fact, all we were able to find that served our purposes were a handful of gritty shows (The Night Of, for example) that were dubbed into Hungarian with English subtitles. The rest of the shows either didn’t have English or Hungarian subtitles. There are a few shows that haven’t been dubbed, too, so if you want to watch in English and aren’t concerned about subtitles, you’re not without options.
