In Budapest, speeds can be quite good, depending on what provider you have. We signed up for the cheapest possible package with DIGI, which costs 3700 HUF per month (roughly $13) for guaranteed upload and download speeds of 200 megabits per second.
That’s fast compared to what we got in the United States with Comcast; we were paying upwards of $30 per month for (up to) 3 megabits per second.
Incidentally, DIGI has a 1 gigabit package that’s pretty reasonable (less than 5000 HUF per month), but of course you’ll need a router that can handle it — or forego wi-fi and plug the cable straight into your computer. With DIGI, no modem is necessary inside your apartment.
If you’re in Hungary, what has your experience been? Who is your provider, and what are your typical speeds?
